About the Record

Dreamings Skulls was recorded at Panzer Studio by Abzintas

This album is a bit darker and heavier than Abztinas' self-titled debut. It has traditional heavy metal at its core but is influenced by stoner rock, doom and thrash metal.

The lyrical content is about how one creates one's own world, no matter how bright or dark it is. It's about in what way our inner demons actually are our best allies and how our dreams affect our waking world and visa versa. It is about giving up on dependency upon darkness and depression and admitting that it's quite natural to seek joy, even if you're surrounded by roughness and heavy tendencies. It's about the hypocrisy of religious fundamentalism, social and cultural conditioning, being horny and going crazy.

About the Artist

Abzintas started with Roni Duran and Mads Borud getting along as kids, they were both into bands like Kiss and Iron Maiden and hit it off. Not so long after Kyrre Sundt (Sunface) https://www.facebook.com/sunfaceband/ joined in on bass and they formed the band Decoy, Decoy became Knark, and that was when Stian Sandersen joined in on vocals, he joined them on a punk cover song on stage for the first time, the guys liked it and they called the band Dogwalk for some time until they settled with the name Abzintas back in early 2000. Stian Sandersen had been doing vocals for a local punk band called Anaenic and a thrash black metal band called Vesen.

Back in those days, Mads and Roni were working for a garbage truck company, Kyrre at a mattress-factory and Stian at Ringnes Brewery. The weeks were spent working and rehearsing, the weekends were spent listening to music, drinking, smoking weed, going to concerts, rehearsing, recording and playing gigs in the Oslo area, the usual metalhead kind of life.

Abzintas was heavily influenced by traditional heavy metal such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Kiss, Testament, Nevermore along with darker influences like Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride but you might also here a bit of a Stoner groove, reminding of old Black Sabbath, Kyuss, QOTSA, Monster Magnet and the like. Per definition, Abzintas called themselves Stoner Metal, considering the fine mix of heavy grooves and fast melodic metal.

They recorded 2 demos called Abzintas and Dreaming Skulls and toured for some time until Stian decided to leave the metal scene and go to India. The rest of the guys hooked up with a former vocalist by the name Preben Klingenberg who now became the new permanent vocalist. They played a few live gigs and split up due to band members needing to pay attention to their newly formed families, to other bands and to other arts.
